The Half Circle Rib is a classic, go-to tool that fits into almost every part of your making process. On the wheel, you can use the gradual curve to shape and smooth the inside or outside walls of bowls, cups, and plates. The straight edge helps you compress the clay, and keep your forms even from top to bottom, which is especially helpful when you want matching pieces.

It also works well for hand building. You can use it to join slabs, smooth seams, scrape away extra clay, and refine the overall profile of your piece. The rib glides over soft or firm clay, helping remove slip and small bumps so surfaces are ready for trimming or decorating.

 Each size includes grip holes that make the rib easy to hold in different hand positions, even when your hands are wet or covered in clay.

Stoic Clay Tools is just the two of us, Brett and Rachel, working together in a small workshop in Upstate SC. When we made our first batch of tools in 2023 we realized how much we enjoyed designing and shaping pieces with the same attention to detail that potters bring to their own work. Since then we have come a long way, making thousands of ribs for hundreds of potters in the US and around the world.
